Middle School at Atlas

The Atlas Difference
At Atlas, we believe middle school should be a time of exploration, growth, and opportunity. By combining rigorous academics, meaningful relationships, increased independence, student choice, and real-world learning experiences, we create an environment where students are challenged, supported, and prepared for whatever comes next.
Growing Up Atlas
Atlas Middle School is designed to help students navigate the exciting transition from childhood to adolescence with confidence. Combining rigorous academics, meaningful relationships, expanded opportunities, and increased independence, our middle school program prepares students for success in high school, college, career, and life.
Atlas Middle School serves students in grades 6-8. As with our elementary program, we are growing intentionally and will add one grade level as a time as our students advance through the program.

The middle school is led by Principal Angela Jackson, who also oversees our innovative blended 5th grade program designed to help students successfully transition from elementary school to middle school.
While Angela officially joined Atlas in 2025 as our Literacy Dean, she brings nearly two decades of experience, including leading literacy strategy, coaching teachers, and driving strong student outcomes across multiple schools and networks. She has a deep background in curriculum, data-driven instruction, and building systems that support both teachers and students at a high level.

A Thoughtful Transition: Blended 5th Grade

Fifth grade students continue to receive the support and structure they need while gradually taking on additional responsibilities and experiencing many of the routines they will encounter in middle school. Students begin utilizing lockers, eating lunch in the cafeteria, participating in community meetings, and developing the independence and organizational skills that will prepare them for future success.
This intentional bridge helps students build confidence and ensures they are ready to thrive when they enter 6th grade.
A Middle School Designed for Independence
Middle school is a time when students are discovering who they are, exploring new interests, and developing greater independence. At Atlas, we've intentionally designed a program that gives students more ownership over their day while surrounding them with the support they need to be successful. Students experience many of the traditions and opportunities families associate with a great middle school experience, including lockers, passing periods, electives, clubs, athletics, advisory, and lunch in the cafeteria.
Unlike elementary school, students follow individualized schedules throughout the day. Rather than moving through classes as a single cohort, students transition independently between classes, giving them opportunities to build responsibility, form new friendships, and develop the confidence needed for high school and beyond.
