🎤 We asked our faculty, “What do you bring to Atlas?”
🗣 Now it’s Andrew’s turn to give us an answer!
👉 But, who is Andrew? Keep reading to learn more about our Kindergarten teacher who won Educator of the Year last year!
“I am a native of St. Louis. I grew up in Ballwin and graduated from Parkway Schools. I moved to the city in 2013, and have loved living here since.
I attended Southwest Baptist University where I earned a BS in Church Ministry with an emphasis in Youth. In 2015 I started the Teach in ’12 program at UMSL to get my teaching certificate and am currently finishing up my Masters in Education. I have taught Kindergarten since 2017 for Saint Louis Public Schools at Walbridge STEAM Academy.
I was married in May of 2014 and moved to Boulevard Heights, had twin boys (Jesse and Charlie) in December of 2015, and a third boy (Sam) in June of 2018. It has been a life-altering 7 years, but I wouldn’t change any of it. All of my hobbies involve spending time with my family, mostly hiking, gardening, walking around the neighborhood, and generally just being outside.
I wanted to be an Archaeologist or Paleontologist when I was really young, but from the time I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to work with children in some capacity. Quitting my previous career with 2-month-old twins to go back to school to become a teacher was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life, but it has given me the opportunity to fulfill what I knew I should be doing since I was 16.”
When asked what he brings to Atlas, this is what Andrew said, “I bring a joy of learning - anything and everything I can. It is my goal to meet all students exactly as and where they are, and hopefully bring them along the learning journey with me.”
We are thrilled that Andrew (and his twin boys who will be starting Kindergarten at Atlas!) is joining our team and know that our students are going to learn so much from him!
