This year, our Explorers have a whole new menu of extracurricular options to keep them busy outside of school. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on our cross country team.
In partnership with the STL City League, our students are getting the chance to compete with peers from across the city. Both coaches and runners are eager for their very first meet, and they’re already putting in the work to get ready.
The team, led by Mr. Oliver Clark and Ms. Anna Karner, practices twice a week. At their most recent practice, runners pushed themselves through a mile and a half, a huge milestone for many students who are new to long-distance running.
Coach Oliver Clark shared: "I couldn’t be prouder of our cross country runners! Each and every one of them has proven that they’ve got what it takes to push themselves to new heights. Whether out on the course, or in the classroom, these kids are DETERMINED and it's nothing short of inspiring to witness. I can’t wait to see our Explorers give it their all next week at our first meet!”
When asked what they thought so far, Finley Weaver and DaKota Hart admitted that their parents were the ones who initially signed them up. That said, both quickly added that they’re happy to be part of the team because they get to see friends outside of school, play games, and pick up new lessons along the way.
We can’t wait to cheer them on at their first meet next week. Go Atlas!
